It is really simple, the idea started with a question: What if we could make a restaurant with the most amazing, fresh, locally sourced produce that gives back to the community and brings hope? We instantly came up with the ancient medieval legend of Robin Hood. An educated man from England, who vowed after everything he loved and owned was destroyed, to give back to the poor from his loot off the rich.
It is a legend with twists and turns. Starting in the 12th century legend has it that a young earl, a gifted archer, lived with his father in rural England. As it is told, he lost everything to a brutal raid, fleeing into the nearby Sherwood forest. Exhausted and traumatised he makes a pledge, that no one should suffer at the hands of fate and that as long as he lives, he will take form the rich and give to the poor. He is soon joined by many that suffered a similar fate, the merriemen of Sherwood forest. There are plenty of tales in our menu, come and have a bite to eat and catch up on your medieval terminology and stories.
Ubuntu is an African term meaning "humanity". It is often translated as "I am because we are," and also "humanity towards others", but is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity". (wikipedia)
By sharing, together, we can achieve and see others achieve - how beautiful is that? In essence, it is very Robin Hood, although his methods were different, he truly was living with the spirit of Ubuntu. We wanted to marry our ancient hero's tale with our African heritage, something that we as Africans are truly proud of. So we designed our own African mandala, a symbol ever present in our branding and decor, reflecting a circle of unity and people helping people. Our Mandala room is a tranquil, colourful space where you can enjoy great food made with gusto. We live this dream and would love you to join us on our Ubuntu adventure!
